Rodin: Portraits of a Lifetime
Selections from the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Collections

About the Exhibition

Rodin: Portraits of a Lifetime, Selections from the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Collections features 17 world-renowned works in bronze by Auguste Rodin, including his famous depictions of writers Victor Hugo and Honore de Balzac, musician Gustav Mahler, artist Claude Lorrain, Chilean General Lynch Solo de Zaldivar, and Pope Benedict XV, as well as portraits of Rodin by Edward Steichen, John Tweed, and Paul Paulin. The show also includes many of Rodin’s most admired pieces — from an early bust of his father, Jean Baptist Rodin, to his Mask of the Man with the Broken Nose—critically-praised works that span Rodin’s long career and demonstrate his remarkable legacy in sculpture.

About the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Foundation

This highly acclaimed traveling exhibition is made available through the generosity of the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation, which provides philanthropic leadership in two principle areas: medicine and the arts. It does so by awarding grants for programs, facilities, and endowments at distinguished medical, educational, and cultural institutions in the United States and internationally.

In the medical area, the foundation supports institutions at the forefront of biomedical research and clinical care, with an emphasis on healthcare for women. In the arts, the foundation supports exhibitions and other programs that encourage recognition and appreciation of the visual and performing arts, promote scholarship, and that otherwise enhance cultural life. Furthering the Cantor legacy in the visual arts, the foundation’s activities continue to focus on the work of the sculptor Auguste Rodin and his contemporaries.
